why march for peace
Feb. 17th, 2003 10:23 amI posted this as a comment somewhere else, but I wanted to put it here so I could find it later... my email is being weird lately.
>>Most of the peace activists at the march and rally in SF were acting quietly and with much focus too.
But at least we were visible, we were out there being counted.
One doesn't have to make a lot of noise to be counted in some visible way. Staying at home praying for peace and living in peaceful ways, we can also do.
I can do both. I can be quiet, and I can raise my voice. I can stay at home, I can take to the streets when needed.
And in my opinion, taking to the streets is very much needed these days, especially by the types of people the war-mongering powers that be don't usually think of as being "activists."
They need to see parents with small children out there, grandparents, all ages, all colors, all religions and no religion, everyone who wants peace - they (we) can stay home and quietly pray/meditate/live in peace all the other days of the month or year, but they (we) are needed on the streets as well once in a while.
There is power in numbers, and we need to show our numbers to them in ways they can see, over and over and over again until they get the message that the people of the world want peace more than anything else, more than our so-called leaders want war.<<
