I have a clock with a thermometer in it next to my bed. By 10 am this morning, it was 91 degrees indoors here, and I live in the cooler part of the the city. In other words, stick a fork in me, I am way done.

I had to take a heavy shopping bag full of parcels to the PO to be mailed this morning, which involved taking a Muni bus about a mile. I didn't realize that 10:30 is when summer school lets out a block away, so the bus filled up with teenage hooligans (I love that word), but at least I had a seat before they got on.

The PO was crowded as usual, and about 100 degrees inside. I waited in line for about 20 minutes, then get the postal worker who has Downs Syndrome. He's fine, obviously smart enough to pass the PO's civil service test, but he's just really slow. Plus one of my customers had given me an illegible zip code, so he had to look that up, which took extra time... I feel really sorry for the workers who had to be there all day in this heat, with not even a fan blowing on them.

Anyway, I came home and vowed not to go back outside. The air is horrible and it's making my throat hurt and my hay fever worse. I've gotten very little work done, but at least it's quiet - my neighbors must be at the beach or something.

I'm not a religious woman, but I will be praying to the Weather God to bring the fog back TONIGHT.

One of my all-time favorite sounds is the sound of foghorns in the middle of the night when we've had a heatwave. :)
