Free will - what is it, and do we really have it?

NYT article of interest -

http://tinyurl.com/ynbsky

"Dr. Wegner of Harvard said: “We worry that explaining evil condones it. We have to maintain our outrage at Hitler (for example). But wouldn’t it be nice to have a theory of evil in advance that could keep him from coming to power?”

He added, “A system a bit more focused on helping people change rather than paying them back for what they’ve done might be a good thing.” "

so i officially closed my art business a few days ago -
what a relief, as far as tax returns for next year.

in 2006 i did not sell anything to anyone in california
but i have to file a sales tax return with CA anyway
showing gross sales and then subtracting everything sold out of state
which was everything i sold.

after i do all the tax stuff for last year
i just don't want to do all that paperwork anymore
so i am not going to sell anything that way this year -
nothing that would require me to file a sales tax return.

so it's goodbye to selling physical pieces of art this year.

i can still sell things in other ways -
ways in which someone else does all the sales tax stuff
if there is any to be done for what they sell,
like the way cafepress works and so on.

and i just thought, if we retire to oregon in a few years
which we just might (to ashland maybe)
they don't have sales tax
which would make selling physical pieces of art so much easier.

in case i still feel like doing that at some time in the future.

i really don't know what i want to do, other than retire of course :)
