the cult of anne lamott

Anne Lamott has a new book coming out on Tuesday.

I love her writing. The local paper quotes someone as saying that people who like her books are like a cult.

A cult of people who enjoy good writing, I guess?

Or maybe they are so clueless that they think everyone who reads her is some kind of reborn Christian?

I have no idea what they meant by that, but thought it was funny anyway.

I'm not any kind of Christian, never even baptized as a child  (which made some of my religionist friends later on tell me I was definitely going to hell and that they would pray for me whether I wanted them to or not), and I have only been in a few churches in my life in an anthropological sort of way (or attending a wedding).

 I like Annie though. She is smart and funny and a very left-wing sort of Christian, which is the kind that usually likes me.

The kind Jesus was, I imagine - it appears he was pretty much as far left as you can go without meeting up with the right-wing in the area where they both become dictatorial asshats - that area where both GWB and Hugo Chavez reside currently.  They have so much in common, but they are not smart or funny, just total asshats.

Anyway, Annie is even more entertaining in person, as I have seen several times - so if you get a chance to go to one of her readings, go.
