the presidio

The Presidio is my back yard and I sure hope they don't do this to the Main Post area. Rich people taking over our National Parks in this town is something we don't need more of.

George Lucas already took over a chunk of the eastern part of the park, and I am OK with his "office park" over there for the most part, but this plan for Main Post sounds like a nightmare of traffic and parking congestion where now it's OK except when there is a special event going on.

It will change the ambiance of the park a lot, I think (and not for the better) if they build all kinds of huge attractions in the Main Post area.

We have enough movie theaters and hotels in this town already, and do we need a huge art museum right there just to house the Gap founders'  personal art collection? No, I do not think so.

A lot of things have changed for the better in this town in the past 40 years, and getting the Army out of the Presidio was definitely  one of them - but turning over large chunks of it to private developers is not a good idea (except for those who profit from it of course).

Just a little local color... I snapped this on Haight Street years ago. The actual wall is much bigger than I could capture with my camera at the time.

I have no idea who the artist is (or was).  As far as I recall, it was not signed in any way that I could decipher - it was graffiti after all and not legal to paint there, I assume.

I sell posters and stuff of it on CafePress... it's my photo, after all, even though it was not my painting!
