we're baaaaack
Dec. 2nd, 2008 06:46 pmWe got back from Mendocino this afternoon. We had a great time and the weather was perfect. The only bad thing that happened was as soon as we got into town, this happened. The waves were HUGE all weekend and it was the worst time to fall off the edge of the continent.
When we left today, there were still fire and rescue people on the headlands looking for the guy's body (I assume that's why they were out there this morning anyway).
We were on Main Street when it happened and could see the crowd gathered near the edge, and then a helicopter was making circle after circle just off the edge a little way north of Main Street.
We did not go over there to watch the rescue effort and then after the guy disappeared, the recovery effort. I am the kind of person, if I see an accident or something bad happening, I run in the opposite direction if there is nothing I can do to help. I am the opposite of a rubber-necker.
We didn't hear all the details of what happened until yesterday, when various locals told us the whole story... it was very sad. His two sons were with him when it happened.
I am too scared of falling to go very close to the edge on those headlands, and when Joe does it, I don't like it. He never goes quite THAT close though, thank goodness. And when you see pictures of him near an edge, I am standing way way behind him.
Anyway other than that, we did have a great time and I took hundreds of pictures that I will sort through tomorrow perhaps.
