and then right under that article there was one about an off-duty policeman who shot and critically wounded his teenage daughter as she was sneaking back into the house during the night and he thought she was an intruder.

the stats always indicate that having a gun in your house is much more likely to result in accidental injury or death than it is to be used in protecting yourself from an actual intruder. apparently it even works that way if you are a cop.
