today is rachel's birthday
and i think we will go to lunch on upper fillmore
at this restaurant
which is not fancy but is very good
and we have been eating there since she was a baby
so that's more than 35 years!

we used to mainly go to the one on noe street
because we lived over there for many years.

but sometimes we would go to the berkeley one
and for the past 20 years we've mainly gone to the fillmore one.

i should go back to the noe street one again sometime though
just for old time's sake.

their menu has not changed in more than 30 years.
the prices have changed of course, but not the food
and the food is GOOD. :)

Noe St. my favorite restaurant in SF. I have been to all three. I was in Noe St. the evening after the first same sex weddings happened at City Hall, and the happy couples kept stopping in to the applause and joy of us patrons, on their way up to Castro. That was an extraordinary expression of community.

My fav thing on the menu is the Meza for two with a carafe, and a Turkish Coffee for fortune telling afterwards, with desert. Mmmm, many happy long talky evenings spent there - even closing the place a few times. I could easily walk there from my house on Elgin Park (near Flax).

i lived on henry street near noe when i first came to sf in 1970, then moved back and forth in and out of the same building several times, as well as other apartments in that area, from 1970 to 1988 (when we moved over here to the richmond district).

so i went to the noe one many many times - and we used to hang out at cafe flore across the street there when it first opened up, which i think must have been 1974? rachel grew up in that neighborhood from birth to 18.

anyway, i get too much deja vu when i go to the castro nowdays so i rarely get over there. i do go to flax once in a while though!
