oh god, now there's ANOTHER new lumix

this one looks like a great point and shoot cam too -
bigger than the little canon a620 i have been carrying around lately
but smaller than the dslr cams and the c8080 olympus i had
that got to be just way too bulky and heavy.

should i buy this one or the bigger lumix
which costs 200 more?

going on a little vacation in two weeks -
but can i decide before then?

i am not going to recommend either of the Lumix's to you - the new fz8 or the fz50 (which i tried from Amazon and sent back.) if you have been enjoying the canon, you will probably be disappointed with the quality of the images from the Lumix. i know i am. of course, it could certainly be user error! but i seemed to do just fine with the fz3. i LOVED that little Lumix. the noise issues in the newer ones are gruesome. i DO love handling it, however. it is sweet. and i love the zoom so much. but the images ... nope. not happy.

so what am i dreaming of now? Nikon d40!! i think i'm gonna try one at Amazon and if i like it, i might sell the Lumix so i can buy it!

i need at least 7 megapixels, so i assume the fz3 does not have that many. 8 or 10 would be even better though.

am still looking at the bigger lumix too - the one with 10 mp.

i need very clear images, which the canon does well. i don't need them for artistic purposes, but for images that istock will accept.

art is not what makes me any money, but clear photographs do.

anyway thanks for the info on the smaller lumix's.

right, the fz3 only has 3 megapixels. i think my fz7 has 6? i am assuming you will take the camera for a test drive before purchasing, so will let you judge for yourself the clarity of the fz8 or fz50 images. you might have better luck than i have! for only doing arty stuff, the lumix is fine, but i am sad when i am going for something clear and clean. live and learn!

is the d40 you want the big one, the DSLR? that one looks great but also looks like the big ones i had before that i just could not lug around all the time.

same with the d80 mentioned below by annina - nice but it's a DSLR and i know how bulky they are to deal with.
