Ever look inside a bag of microwave popcorn????

Yuck.

And about six months ago, I read an article about how the bags are coated with teflon inside, and that the high temperature when popping causes molecules of teflon to be transferred into the popcorn, and that ingesting teflon is carcinogenic.

Double yuck.

So I stopped eating microwave popcorn.

We're probably all doomed anyway, especially us boomers who were poisoned by almost everything fed to us in the 50s and 60s and then we polluted ourselves royally in the 70s and so on... but I do what I can anyway not to eat teflon!

I've never been fond of the stuff, the grease has a particular taste I don't enjoy. My mom always made it on top of the stove, in a big pan, with cooking oil. We do the same, it turns out just fine, and is cheaper. We like to put Mrs. Dash on it for tastiness, and sometimes we toss it with grated fresh parmesan.

I liked the kind that had very little (or no) fat added, and then I would add my own organic butter and sea salt to it after it was popped.

I can still make it in the microwave by using a brown bag and taping it closed, if I want to make it that way, and use organic popcorn to do it.

I used to make it the old fashioned way on the stove, but it takes too much oil - I'd rather have a little butter added than to have popped it in oil.

Back in the 70's we used one of those hot air poppers - maybe those will come back in style.

Plus I used to have this hard plastic bowl contraption that you could put regular popcorn in and then microwave it that way with no added oil. Have not seen one of those in a while.

There are a zillion ways to make popcorn without getting the teflon! :)
